A cactus and a leafy plant sit on a ledge by a window, accompanied by decorative birds and a sign reading “A friend loves at all times - Proverbs 17:17”.

My wife has half a dozen of these little cactus plants around the house.

Brick building facade with sign “BABY’S ON FIRE RECORDS COFFEE” beneath three hanging lamps; a pride flag partially obscures the view on the right.

Cool spot in the city. Iced tea was good, bagel was good, eggs and cheese were meh. Nice vibe though.

A variety of objects on a metal table: a decorated Disney tumbler, an empty plastic cup, electronic devices, a pink water bottle, and other personal items, possibly indicating a casual outdoor setting.

Would love to be by the pool again, reading pages and pages of fiction.

🔗 Stranded fishermen rescued from tiny island thanks to ‘HELP’ sign // // usatoday.com

Previous castaways spelled SOS on beach on same island in 2020

Nearly four years ago, three other boaters in a 23-foot boat who departed from Polowat Atoll on July 30, 2020, also washed onto the same island after their boat ran out of gas.

The crew spelled out a giant “SOS” sign on the beach which was spotted by the crew of a US Air Force tanker operating out of Andersen Air Force Base on Guam.

Maybe they ought to put a radio on that island.

A spotlight beams onto a theater stage with suitcases, amidst elegant, arching, wood-paneled architecture, creating an anticipatory ambiance.

Saw Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and it was a truly magical show.

Had my first work in-person standup meeting (no one stood up) in four years and it was weird. The calendar on the wall still shows 2020.

I just saw a guy in my rearview mirror who had a skeleton with a pirates hat sitting in his passenger seat with his elbow hanging out of the window. He was just driving around with this thing in his car. What in the world?

I cannot think of a single reason why I would need the Humane AI pin in a world where I have an Apple Watch or have AirPods in and also have a phone in my pocket. Assuming that Siri gets much better at stuff after the AI updates this year, as long as I have a way to control its functions without actually touching the phone, I don’t see why I would need to use the AI pin.

Didn’t get a chance to post yesterday about this, but I did get a chance to enjoy the partial eclipse in my area. I got to my son’s high school a little before pickup and spent about five minuted before and after the peak. It was the first time I’ve done this and I wish I and been able to see totality.

I love the vibe of the DC Metro stations and trains.

Today I learned of the passing of Vernon Vinge. I read A Fire Upon the Deep in high school and it was a major turning point in my love of science fiction. I’m going to re-read True Names in his honor.

Two children hugging and standing in the surf on a beach, waves approaching, under a cloudy sky. There is no text in the image.

Taken some time ago, but this day epitomizes well-being. Family time, happiness, acceptance.

Had a nice morning. After church we visited a spot downtown with a food market and a popup vintage clothing market, popped into a local plant shop, and a local book store. Oh, and empanadas and ice cream.

Variegated green and white pothos plant hangs from a black pot, indoor setting with soft natural light filtering through the leaves.

A transparent pink dragonfly ornament is clipped onto a green stem, with a blurred indoor plant-filled background.

Potted plants line a wooden shelf against a brick wall, with empty woven baskets above them.

A metal scoop rests in a container of tropical soil, situated in a plant-filled shop with a sink and potted plants.

A collection of black pebbles closely packed together, filling the frame with their shiny textures.

Multiple colorful plastic dinosaur toys are scattered in a decorative metallic bowl on a wooden surface.

A sticker on a worn surface depicts a knife and vegetables with the text “VEGGIE MASSACRE."

Bookshelves line a cozy, well-lit bookstore; various titles indicate a wide selection, and a person browses in the background.

A black silhouette of a dog sits next to a sign saying “Look! It’s a Book Store” with an arrow, all painted on a green brick wall.

Feet on an ottoman, facing a TV in a cozy living room setting with plants and furniture.

After a week in NYC, putting my feet up and taking in a deep breath of no people, cars, or noise is the serenity I needed.
